Popped in to water the guys. A bit of worm juice in there for good measure 💪 The broad beans have come up And the lettuce looks like this: I think I'll wait s little bit to thin them out.

Lettuce has sprouted, which is nice, although I now think that it's going to be hard to separate them out to plant them elsewhere. Next round I'll sprinkle them into some kinda seedling tray. Nice to see the bulb planted by little Bea has sprouted, although I don't yet see any signs of the bed bulbs sprootin'.

water

It raining hard! Just popped in the greenhouse to water the plants and to plant up some seeds. There isnow: lettuce mix pea sweet pea dwarf pea red onion white onion green tomato purple tomato tomato We'll see how it goes.  It's incredibly late (early) to be planting this, but on the other hand it has also been incredibly mild so we'll just see what happens :)

greenhouse floor

Lots of moving flagstones and bags of chippings. Anyway... Done! I filled in the drainage gutter with chippings In the box and the builders bag are leaves (from the greenhouse). Hopefully the right hand side by the pallet will be a leaf bin at some point!

sorting

Today I picked out all the bits of root and grass from the greenhouse, along with a lot of rocks - although there's plenty more there! I put most of the rocks in a channel against the building wall, for that extra drainage from the indoor tap. I brought in a couple of the paving slabs, and I've laid them out in the greenhouse as an idea of what it would look like paved.  I've picked up some weed resisting liner to go underneath the paving slabs, as I see that I previously brought liner suitable for flowers and beds, rather than stones and high traffic...

shifting

Soil and chippings arrived today, so I moved them (soil was down by the community garden plots gave, and the chippings were up by The Dairy).  I screwed together the herb veg bed and filled it with soil (I mixed in some sand for that extra drainage) I mixed 3 spades of SS2 soil to one spade insole soil to one spade of sharp sand and topped up the veg beds with it. Mixing them together in that half builders bag you can see in the pic. I planted (!) some more lettuce as the slugs had eaten all the shoots. I've planted them in a balsa wood tray thing that the veg sometimes comes in for the cafe. It'll be kept off the floor... I also planted some broad beans and some peas to see what would happen. They're planted in little cardboard pots. I moved some paving slabs into the greenhouse from the Dairy.

moar digs

Just a bit of hacking at the greenhouse floor with the hand mattock/pick underneath the trestle. Hopefully all the digging is done now, but I'll take it over and see how it is tomorrow. I need to take out the stones too.

digging

I moved the two piles of soil over, so that I can put down another veg bed. I added a bit more sand to the unsanded pile, and took out the worst of the stones. I dig the drainage trench around the greenhouse a little bit more. I've started digging again in the greenhouse. It would be nice when we lay the floor to have the floor underneath the feet of the tressel table, which means more chipping away at the soil so that I can level it out.

sawing

Today I made a terrible bird table. It's in the ground now, but it'll need replacing soon! At least I've good idea on how to make the next one better! I've also sawn all the planks of wood for the herb bed (that will join the two veg beds together). I've screwed all the sides together as a double thickness, and made the very shallow stakes for them, but I just need to screw them all together to make the box. It took ages!

beds and skip

A lot done today. Soil arrived from the Soil Association, so that was used to fill the beds. There was just enough. I used up all the sifted soil as well. The skip arrived. It's a long way away from where it should have been put, but this is because one of the posts signaling no entry is concreted in, when it shouldn't be. So the lorry couldn't access where it wanted to go.  I put all the rubbish and all the stones in the skip. Some of the old soil too (as there is too much old clay soil!) I tried to save as many worms as I could. I added a lot of the sand to some of the old soil and picked out the worst of the stones. This soil will be used to make a bed for potatoes and things.  I moved some wood which has been kindly donated by a Potting Shed customer. It's slightly better/thicker than pallet wood, but there's a lot of metal brackets on them.  I've sawn off the brackets, so I'm left with useable wood. The plan is to screw them all together and use it to m...

Made two 'fences' from an old palette. I've used one to mark the lettuce bed in the greenhouse. Of which they've started sprouting! That's a relief, because I thought it was too warm in there for them. Also made the framework for a bird table. I'm not sure how successful it'll be... Just need to screw it together and plant it. I'm looking forward to Monday, where soil for the beds will be delivered and also a skip will be there to take away the rubbish :)
