seed swap



This pandemic library/seed swap is in Roath, between the playing fields and the pleasure gardens. I will endeavour to swap some seeds for some watermelon seeds (if they are still there next week!)

 I brought up a quince tree to be planted in the massive pot. Hopefully I should get round to that before Monday. I also brought up my worms from home. I've put them in the greenhouse until I build them an outside shelter.... I filled up the little bed I dug in the greenhouse with a mix of compost, leaves and soil and sprinkled some lettuce seeds in - just in case! I think the variety is called Jack Ice, so it should do well in the cold with a name like that... I can't find my hand fork, or a good quantity of bulbs that I had brought. Hopefully they've gone to a good home. I may well start storing them up in the water tower (the room at the top of the garden slope has the water boiler in). I also moved a few more paving slabs.

Lettuce has sprouted, which is nice, although I now think that it's going to be hard to separate them out to plant them elsewhere. Next round I'll sprinkle them into some kinda seedling tray. Nice to see the bulb planted by little Bea has sprouted, although I don't yet see any signs of the bed bulbs sprootin'.

Soil and chippings arrived today, so I moved them (soil was down by the community garden plots gave, and the chippings were up by The Dairy).  I screwed together the herb veg bed and filled it with soil (I mixed in some sand for that extra drainage) I mixed 3 spades of SS2 soil to one spade insole soil to one spade of sharp sand and topped up the veg beds with it. Mixing them together in that half builders bag you can see in the pic. I planted (!) some more lettuce as the slugs had eaten all the shoots. I've planted them in a balsa wood tray thing that the veg sometimes comes in for the cafe. It'll be kept off the floor... I also planted some broad beans and some peas to see what would happen. They're planted in little cardboard pots. I moved some paving slabs into the greenhouse from the Dairy.
