Popped in to check on the plants, what with the snow and all, and give them a water


Here's the beds. The dug earth between the quince tree and the 2nd veg bed is planted with some bulbs I picked up from the supermarche. Hopefully they'll look good in 6 weeks or so...


The 2nd veg bed with the peas and broad beans on the left & lower right. I think that's a fennel top right - it's looking a little worse for wear after the cold. There's two types of garlic below the fennel.


The first veg bed. It's just got some volunteer lettuce transplanted from the greenhouse last week.


Here they are - so tiny!


The 'erbs. Sage is looking a little sorry, but I reckon it'll perk up pretty quickly. There's some super small volunteer lettuce plants in there too


The pots! Exciting to see these sprouting as I don't know what's in there! (Apart from the smaller black pot which I think are cowbells, planted by tiny baby Bea ages ago)


The ugly tyre I filled and put a Peony in there. I think I put some seeds in there just to see if they'll come up later. Although i can't remember now what they were!


Here's the helleborus on it's second flower


And the bulbs in that border are coming up!


I checked on the wormies. They're doing well. I'll remove one of the trays when it gets a little warmer...


The unthinned lettuce. I will leave them unthinned as I'm just curious how they do.


Mystery sprouts! I did label them, but I must've labeled them wrong... I think they're onion sproutlings.


And then these are a mix of things that might sprout and then they'll be available to sell/swap/buy...

Made two 'fences' from an old palette. I've used one to mark the lettuce bed in the greenhouse. Of which they've started sprouting! That's a relief, because I thought it was too warm in there for them. Also made the framework for a bird table. I'm not sure how successful it'll be... Just need to screw it together and plant it. I'm looking forward to Monday, where soil for the beds will be delivered and also a skip will be there to take away the rubbish :)

O.o The bulbs are coming up proper! The peas and beans and garlic 👇 Comfrey beginning to shoot 👇 The quince tree survives! I took out a few of the strawberry shoots up by the water tower, and gave everything in the greenhouse a good water as it was flipping boiling in there. I planted some oregano, chives, coriander, courgette (!), violets, hollihocks, sweet peas, radish and beetroot. Fingers crossed for them! I put a tomato seedling into a compostable pot. I sprinkled some wildflower mix and some Californian poppy into the borders, and took up some dandelion roots at the same time. I forgot to take a photo of the lettuce again. The peony pot has some wildflower seedlings sprouting in it - I can't remember what they are exactly right now - I'm sure it'll come to me...

beds and skip

A lot done today. Soil arrived from the Soil Association, so that was used to fill the beds. There was just enough. I used up all the sifted soil as well. The skip arrived. It's a long way away from where it should have been put, but this is because one of the posts signaling no entry is concreted in, when it shouldn't be. So the lorry couldn't access where it wanted to go.  I put all the rubbish and all the stones in the skip. Some of the old soil too (as there is too much old clay soil!) I tried to save as many worms as I could. I added a lot of the sand to some of the old soil and picked out the worst of the stones. This soil will be used to make a bed for potatoes and things.  I moved some wood which has been kindly donated by a Potting Shed customer. It's slightly better/thicker than pallet wood, but there's a lot of metal brackets on them.  I've sawn off the brackets, so I'm left with useable wood.
